IQAC, National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam hosted a special lecture on “Women and Child Trafficking” by Ms. Sunitha Krishnan, Padma Shri Awardee, Indian social activist and Chief Functionary & Co-Founder of Prajwala.

From understanding the different forms of trafficking to hearing powerful real-life stories of survivors, the session offered a closer look at the realities, consequences and challenges surrounding human trafficking.

Ms. Krishnan also shared insights into the work of Prajwala and its efforts towards prevention, rescue, rehabilitation and empowerment of trafficking survivors.

A thought-provoking session that reminded us that awareness is only the beginning—understanding, empathy and collective action are essential to building a safer and more just society.

The Centre for Clinical Legal Education and Legal Aid Cell (CCLELAC) conducted a visit to Lok Adalat, held at the District and Sessions Court, Amingaon.

Hon’ble Sri Justice Dinesh Maheswari, Former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and presently Chairman, Law Commission of India, delivered a special lecture on “Constitutional Law in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Fundamental Rights and Fundamental Duties vis-à-vis Algorithm” at the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam.

The lecture was held at the Seminar Hall, 2nd Floor, Administrative Building of the University. The lecture focused on the evolving relationship between constitutional principles and artificial intelligence, particularly the implications of algorithmic systems for fundamental rights and fundamental duties. The session provided an insightful perspective on the emerging constitutional challenges posed by the increasing use of artificial intelligence in society and governance.

The lecture offered students and faculty an opportunity to engage with contemporary questions at the intersection of constitutional law, technology and artificial intelligence, highlighting the need to examine technological developments through the lens of constitutional values and principles.

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJA) celebrated its 15th Foundation Day on September 1, 2026, marking fifteen years of the University’s journey in legal education, academic excellence and the pursuit of justice.

The celebration was graced by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ashutosh Kumar, Chief Justice, Gauhati High Court and Chancellor, NLUJA, Assam, as the Chief Guest, and Hon’ble Mr. Justice Michael Zothankhuma, Judge, Gauhati High Court, Guwahati, as the Guest of Honour. The programme was also attended by the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, faculty members, officers, staff and students.

The programme featured the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, welcome address, felicitation of the distinguished guests and addresses by the Guest of Honour and the Chief Guest. Adding colour and vibrancy to the celebration, a cultural programme was organised by the University community, beginning with the University Anthem.

Hon’ble Mr. Justice Suman Shyam, Judge, Bombay High Court and former Judge, Gauhati High Court, delivered a special lecture on “Law, Technology and AI – The Future of Legal Profession” at the National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam. The lecture explored the evolving relationship between law, emerging technologies and artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on their transformative impact on the future of the legal profession.

The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJA, Assam) organised a Workshop on “New Criminal Laws” on Saturday, 22 August 2026, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The workshop was conducted by Mr. E. V. Chandru, Legal Advisor, National Investigation Agency (NIA), New Delhi.

The workshop was held at the Seminar Hall, NLUJA, Assam, with students participating both physically and remotely. Students attending from the LL.M. classrooms joined the programme through the online mode, enabling wider participation across the University.

The workshop focused on the recently introduced criminal law framework in India and provided students with an opportunity to develop a practical understanding of the new criminal laws and their implications for the investigation and administration of criminal justice. Mr. Chandru, drawing upon his professional experience with the National Investigation Agency, offered valuable insights into the practical aspects of the new legal provisions and their application in the criminal justice system.

The interactive nature of the workshop provided an enriching academic experience for the participants and enabled students to engage with contemporary developments in criminal law. The programme served as a valuable platform for bridging theoretical legal education with practical perspectives on the implementation of the new criminal laws.

The workshop concluded with an acknowledgement of the valuable contribution of the resource person and the active participation of the students and faculty members.
