Capacity Building Moot Court Competition

The Capacity Building Moot Court Competition is an annual event organised by the Moot Court Committee, designed to provide first-year law students with a thorough introduction to the field of legal advocacy. The competition seeks to foster the development of emerging legal talent by enhancing their skills in research, drafting, and oral advocacy within a simulated courtroom setting.

 

7th Edition of Capacity Building Moot Court Competition

The Moot Court Committee is pleased to observe your enthusiasm for the 7th Capacity Building Moot Court Competition. In recent years, the Capacity Building Moot has been instrumental in preparing teams for success in inter-university competitions. We trust that this year's edition will similarly serve as a platform for you to advance NLUJAA’s esteemed reputation in the national as well as international mooting sphere. Originally conceived by the Moot Court Committee during the 2018-2019 academic year, the inaugural edition of the Capacity Building Moot Court Competition was held in December 2018. Since then, it has been conducted annually, with the 7th edition scheduled to take place from November 8th to 10th, 2024.

6th Edition of Capacity Building Moot Court Competition

The National Law University and Judicial Academy Assam hosted an impactful intra-college event—the 6th Capacity Building Moot Court Competition. Aimed at providing a platform for first-year law students to refine their advocacy skills, the event was designed to foster legal acumen and familiarize participants with practical aspects of courtroom proceedings.

5th Edition of Capacity Building Moot Court Competition

The event unfolded in several stages, with participants forming teams within their peer groups and selecting mentors from senior batches, facilitated by the Moot Court Committee. Submissions of memorials (written submission) took place by February 16th, with a researcher's test conducted on February 18th, emphasizing the importance of research in advocacy. The test was followed by a draw of lots and an exchange of memorials. The method of draw of lots was used to form the fixtures of the oral rounds. The Oral Rounds of the competition took place on 19th February (both the Preliminary rounds were conducted that day) and finally on 21st February, the Valedictory Ceremony of the event took place

A brainchild of MCC 2018-2019, the University saw the 1st edition of Capacity Building Moot Court Competition between 1st and 2nd December, 2018. The competition aimed to inculcate the ethos of mooting into the newly bloomed 1st year law students of the University. The event saw effective participation and two new rolling trophies were instituted within the University namely Protégé and Apprentice for the winners and runners up respectively. The team comprising of Deepika NS, Zeeshan Farid Razvi and Rachit Sharma were adjudged as winners. The Prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of the University.
