Profile
Dr Nalanda Bala Murugan experienced educator, practitioner, and consultant in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and a registered Patent Agent (IN/PA–4699), with extensive teaching experience and strong hands-on professional expertise.
She brings a strong interdisciplinary background spanning Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Food Science, Probiotics, Nanotechnology, Agriculture, and Rural Development, enabling her to effectively bridge scientific research with strategic IP protection and management. This unique blend of expertise allows her to guide scholars and academic professionals in translating their scientific innovations into protectable intellectual assets and in developing a stronger understanding of the role of IPR in research and innovation management.
She is the recipient of the Masters Fellowship in Intellectual Property and Development Policy (MIPD 2023) jointly offered by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), and the Korea Development Institute (KDI). She was also awarded the Women Scientist-C Fellowship (WOS-C,11th Batch, 2019) in Intellectual Property Rights by the Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. She has completed multiple advanced training programs and professional certifications through scholarships from WIPO and KIPO, covering key IP domains such as patent law in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors, intellectual property management, technology transfer, plant variety protection (PVP), protection of Traditional Knowledge (TK) and Traditional Cultural Expressions (TCEs), and innovation and IP policy.
She is committed to life long learning and capacity building in the field of intellectual property. She has conducted numerous presentations and awareness drives across Northeast India, reaching over 2,000 participants, including students, academicians, entrepreneurs, and innovators. She actively engages with academic scholars, school and college students, entrepreneurs, and innovators to foster an innovation-driven outlook and promote early awareness of intellectual property at the research and development (R&D) stage as a foundation for creativity and research.
