The National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (NLUJAA) has been established by the Government of Assam by way of enactment of the National Law School and Judicial Academy, Assam Act, 2009 (Assam Act No. XXV of 2009). The word 'School' was replaced by the word 'University' by amending the National Law School and Judicial Academy, Assam (Amendment) Act, 2011. The Hon'ble Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court is the Chancellor of the University. NLUJAA promotes and makes available modern legal education and research facilities to students and scholars drawn from across the country, including the North East, coming from different socio-economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds.

  • Orientation Programme was held at Seminar Hall, Administrative Block for newly admitted students and their parents/ guardians of B.A.,LL.B. (Hons.) FYIC 2018 and LL.M. One year degree course 2018 in presence of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Dr. J. S. Patil, Faculties and Non Teaching Staffs.
    Students were introduced with different Centres of University, Grievance Redressal Portal and also the Anti-ragging Team and Internal Complaints Committee. Students were ensured that our campus is free from Ragging and Sexual Harassment.
    They were also motivated to take part in various academic and co curricular activities.
  • Second Dr. Gurjeet Singh Memorial National Moot Court Competition (GSMNMCC) was held on April 20-22, 2018.
  • Maharashtra National Law University, Nagpur signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with National Law University and judicial Academy, Assam on April 12, 2018 at Nagpur for fostering academic collaboration between the two universities.
  • Prof. Armin Rosencranz, Lawyer and Political Scientist, delivered special lecture on International environmental law and norms; Energy and climate; Godavarman Case and its impact on north-east India; The Forest Rights Act 2006 and the Vedanta case (2013-14)
  • International Women’s day was organised by Centre for Gender Justice at 1st Floor, Administrative Block on March 08, 2018. Female housekeeping and security staffs of the NLUJA Assam were felicitated by the Vice Chancellor and Registrar.
  • Second Book Exhibition was held at University Library, 4th Floor, Administrative Block. The exhibition was inaugurated on March 5, 2018 by Prof. (Dr.) J. S. Patil, Vice-Chancellor in the presence of Registrar, Teaching and Non Teaching Staffs and Students.
  • First Convocation of the National Law University and Judicial Academy Assam, Guwahati was held in its new Campus at Amingaon on February 25, 2018 at 11.00 a.m. The convocation was presided over by Shri Justice Ajit Singh, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court and Chancellor of the University. The convocation address was delivered by Hon’ble Shri Justice Jasti Chelameswar, Judge, Supreme Court of India. Guests of Honour were Shri Justice Ranjan Gogoi, Judge, Supreme Court of India, Shri Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde Judge, Supreme Court of India. Total of 148 students were conferred degrees of B.A.,LL.B. and LL.M. in the convocation. Seven students bagged gold medals.
  • Alumni Association of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam was innaugurated by Prof. Vijender Kumar, Vice-Chancellor, National Law University, Nagpur.
  • Prof. (Dr.) R. Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor, National Law School of India University, Bangalore and Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal, Vice-Chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab had an interaction with students of NLUJA Assam.
  • Brij - the - Gap (The Poetry Slam) was organised by Literary and Debating Committee of NLUJA Assam.
  • Shri Justice Ajit Singh, Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court and other dignitaries visited National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam for Construction Review Meeting.

    Also, Dr. Amarjyoti Kashyap, Environment and Solid Waste Management Specialist discussed with dignitaries about developing comprehensive waste management system to make National Law University Assam and Judicial Academy, Assam a green campus.
